Broadcast: SearchEnabler is self-serviced on-demand (SaaS) software which intends to make SEO easy, affordable and measurable for startups, small businesses & marketers.
Tête-à-tête with Khadim Batti, Co-Founder of SearchEnabler
Idea and Vision:
With more than 100 million websites worldwide and 10m new domains getting registered every quarter, the need for establishing clear online identity and visibility has emerged strongly. Organic marketing channels viz, SEO, social media, blog being low cost with high returns have become an ideal tool for marketing. However there is still a lot of void in this arena. SearchEnabler intends to change the way organic marketing is perceived and used.
What is your start-up story? Where did you get funding from?
When it comes to harness the power of SEO, most buisnesses including startups prefer to outsource or buy expensive SEO software designed for built for Agencies, Professionals & Enterprises. We ventured out in this sphere given the fact that there were not many players in our target market segment. There was a dearth of solutions offering organic SEO which is cost-effective, easy to use and also measurable. What I have seen is that a whopping 85% of money is spent to promote businesses through the paid search channel. On these lines, SearchEnabler was launched and we promised to give the businesses high end search visibilty while having full control over the process. Prior to SearchEnabler, me and my co-founder colleague Varakumar have worked for more than 10 years in Telecom. As of now we are self funded.
What is your target market? What is your revenue earning plan or model? What’s cooking for enhancing user engagement?
Our target market for SEO includes startups, small businesses who have web presence. As product becomes more mature and based on traction we are looking forward to cover other organic marketing channels such as Social media and content as well increase our scope to offer solutions to enterprises. SearchEnabler is based on SaaS model and we have monthly subscriptions based on number of sites & campaigns.
Our first iteration of SearchEnabler came out with a general purpose SEO platform, but thanks to early adopter’s feedback and improved market understanding, we realized the need to narrow down segment. We launched SearchEnabler beta in Nov 20011 as part of Nasscom Launchpad and started commercialization, but we are still pivoting based on our target segment feedback.
We got eyeballs by generating some buzz in start-up circles and also through app listings. Now we are using what we preach; SEO, to get search engine rankings. Apart from that we do leverage the social media landscape, connect with creative infographics and rich content to generate buzz. This has boosted our own traffic which works as an eye opener for us to reduce customer acquisition cost in longer run. After few more iterations we will utilize some percentage of our marketing budget to paid channels, but definitely organic marketing will be our main focus.
Team is the bloodline of a startup. What’s your take?
Last month we got 2 team members on-board, taking our team strength to 4, which includes myself and co-founder colleage Varakumar. Both of us have worked together for almost 10 years in Huawei Telecom. We complement each other, Vara being hacker and with solid experience of developing large scale applications complements my skills in product management, operation and execution.
Any ideas you want to share from your startup briefcase?
Most important lesson which we have learned in last 1 year is ‘if you believe in your idea, keep experimenting and hang-on”Our first feedback was extremely negative, but we believed and started pivoting based on early adopter’s usage patterns. It took 6 months to receive our first positive feedback.
Anything new coming up?
We are regularly releasing iterations with improved usability and new features. We are looking forward to add features like prediction model for SEO, single view on all ranking factors, link recommendations as well as social media related tracking very soon.
How do you think SearchEnabler is adding value to the startup eco-system?
90% of web traffic is driven by organic channels like SEO, Social media, blogs, but are not effectively used by start-ups. SEO being low cost with high returns can prove to be an ideal tool for marketing and be catalyst to growth of start-ups by helping them increase their reach for acquiring customers. By providing SearchEnabler at such an affordable cost and bringing visibiltity, we feel its one way we can help start-ups to realize maximum potential of SEO.
