Indeed InstallMonetizer is a niche ad-network helping developers milk the cash cow for their desktop software installs. Highly disruptive, InstallMonetizer has big investor daddies such as Andressen Horowitz, Y Combinator, SV Angel, Trandmedia Capital! The founders have earlier worked with Twitter, Foursquare, Dropbox, Flipboard, Six Sigma and yes a few of them even come from the Andromeda galaxy.

The geeks behind InstallMonetizer mentioned that they were struggling themselves to earn good from developing desktop softwares. They also found out others who were sharing the same pangs of suffering. So InstallMonetizer was born!

Once a user installs a software, he/she gets an offer from an advertiser. The user can or cannot accept the offer. Upon acceptance, the publisher is paid and the software is installed. There are many big players in this desktop software domain and this gets them more revenues. But the best part is that well to do developers can also earn a good living from InstallMonetizer.

This model is a replica of the smartphone apps marketplace. But this gives momentum to the desktop software industry. CEO Vince Mundy mentioned in Techcrunch, “the fact that the company provides non-personally identifiable data, allowing advertisers to target specific groups of users and to see whether the ads are not just driving downloads but actual usage, too.” The publishers who are on board Installmonetizer are also chosen after various checks such as domain ownership, anti-virus history and so on. Currently there are almost 9000 publishers registered with Installmonetizer ever since its launch n the winter of 2012 class of Y Combinator.
