Press Release: Vienna, August 20, 2013- Socialspiel, a social and mobile games startup based in Vienna, Austria today announced a six-figure angel round led by German angel fund FLOOR13, and joined by Austrian & US games industry veterans Clemens Beer and Mike Borras.
In conjunction with the financing, Beer, previously a Lead Developer at Rockstar Games and currently Chief Executive Officer of Tupalo.com, will join Socialspiel’s Board, with Borras joining the Socialspiel Board, and taking on day to day duties as Chief Executive Officer. Socialspiel’s games have reached hundreds of thousands of players worldwide and this funding will enable Socialspiel to continue growing the company’s development teams to supercharge production of the startup’s new mobile games and co-development projects.
Socialspiel, founded by an ex-Rockstar Games team in 2010 creates award-winning social and mobile games such as “Tight Lines Fishing” voted “Best Social Game 2011” at the German Game Developer Awards.
Additionally Socialspiel co-develops games with major digital advertising agencies such as Bartle Bogle Hegarty, as well as with leading publishers and brands, most recently co-developing “Asterix & Friends” in partnership with Sproing, Deutsche Telekom, Les Editions Albert René, and SEE Games.

Socialspiel is led by CEO Mike Borras, previously at Rockstar Games and co-founder of Tupalo.com, a 3 million user strong European local search community, and COO Helmut Hutterer, previously at neo Software, Rockstar Games, Deep Silver Games, and co-founder of Team Vienna Games. Combined, the team behind Socialspiel has developed over 50 games on 18 platforms such as Tight Lines Fishing, Grand Theft Auto III, GTA: Vice City, Asterix & Friends, Push!, Seven Million, Dead Island, Max Payne 1-3, Manhunt 2, and Cursed Mountain. Borras will split his time between Vienna, Austria and New York City, while Hutterer will be based in Vienna, Austria.
