Curated by Rick Turoczy, founder of PIE (The Portland Incubator Experiment) TechFestNW is like a little sister of MusicFestNW. MusicFestNW happens for 5 days at Portland since 1995.; It was not before 2012, three days were added to honor, celebrate and explore technology, startups and design culture, making Portland a new hub for digitalization. Oregon Museum of Science and Industry will be house to TechFestNW from September 6- 8, 2013. On the last day. PDX Drones (Portland’s Drone Community) will celebrate flying, building and public education. This event will start off on the final day of the much hyped tech festival presented by Dialsmith from 11AM onwards.
Be a part of this tech event as noted people talk on how to build a flying machine, demonstrate how it flies in reality, face every challenge that comes on your way calmly. 10 pilots will be allowed to enter in the Drone Cage Battle. One of them will walk away with their awesome prize package.
Meet some of the awesome pilots, and learn how they built their machines and started with this fantastic and exciting hobby. Get up and close with the Drones and their know their biographies from right from their mouth!

From Zero to Drone in 60 Minutes at 11 AM
Learn how various parts are integrated together to build a fully functional flying machine. Be a part of this one hour session and watch experts assemble arms and propellers, solder wiring, and also join in the crucial electronic equipments to build the machine. Have you ever thought how Drones are built? Did you build a robot? Your answer might be yes or a no. Yet it will be a treat to watch this speed building, and be present when it actually demonstrates its flying capabilities.
PDX Drones Challenge Presented By Dialsmith at 1 PM
PDX’s best Drone pilots are coming together on one platform to fight head to head in showcasing their skills in Skill Testing Obstacle Course. 10 awesome pilots will stand face-to-face and compete against each other. Only one will emerge as the winner to walk away with an awesome prize package. Individual accomplishments will receive prizes in praise as well. Navigation, precision and ability to manage a situation calmly when under tension and pressure- Pilots will have to pass each of these tests to be the best! If you are thinking you don’t know any Drone pilot, then join this event and know them up, close and personal. They will be there to share how they started, what propelled them to go about this exciting and fascinating hobby. Learn from the builders how they build their machines.
Flight Demonstrations at 2 PM
Entire day will witness flight demonstrations of the Drones. Watch the Drones talk about their machines, about their passion and which mission, what capability suits each individual machine. Get the story from the storytellers directly!
